Bojutsu: The Art and the Method of using a Stick for Martial Arts and Self-Defense (Part 2)
Pre-Basics
In this section, we will delve into some fundamental ideas of utilizing a stick as a means of self-defense. When I’m hiking through the hills of Western Massachusetts personally, I prefer to carry a six-foot walking stick, which is referred to in Japanese martial arts as a "Rokushaku Bo." The term "rokushaku" combines "roku," meaning six, and "shaku," an ancient measurement roughly equivalent to one foot, thus designating it as a six-foot staff.
In the following segment( part 3), I will discuss various body positions (Kamae) and movements (Taihen jutsu) associated with wielding the six-foot staff.
